All Abled Arts

ALL ABLED ARTS is both an artistic and a structural principle where diverse modes of perception, languages and bodies converge to expand aesthetic norms. For a long time, Deaf artists and those with impairments or differing learning abilities, have only sporadically been visible in German-speaking, municipally funded theatres. However, since the beginning of Barbara Mundel’s artistic directorship, the Münchner Kammerspiele has been opening up its organisation in a permanent and artistically coherent way. For the first time, actors with differing learning abilities have been permanently engaged as full members of a municipally funded theatre’s ensemble. Step by step, a unique ecosystem made up of ensemble work, knowledge transfer, allies and audience experience has developed.

Festival of inclusive theater

11. – 14.1.2024

A long weekend for our thematic focus All Abled Arts: art by and for people of all abilities as a matter of course. Since the beginning of Barbara Mundel’s artistic directorship, artists with and without disabilities have been working together at the Kammerspiele. With our own productions, guest performances, music and panels, we showcased aesthetic diversity and the current state of specialist discussions. Plus: parties and get-togethers.

Members of the companies will appear as experts in workshops, co-curate them, direct or act in some of them or co-write various productions. We will invite the companies to Munich for guest performances. They will also contribute to publications and the website and provide advice to the Münchner Kammerspiele.

We have also teamed up with local groups, including the Freie Bühne München and the Pfennigparade’s creative lab.
