Anne Sophie Kapsner

Anne Sophie Kapsner [she/they] is a theater director*, author* and conducts artistic research. She* lives in Munich. Her* interdisciplinary works operate in the border area of documentary, drama and pop aesthetics. The starting point is usually biographical events.

Anne studied theater studies and language, literature, culture with a focus on Swedish at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich and Stockholms Universitet. From 2014 to 2020 she studied theater directing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main.

Anne has been working as a freelance artist in Germany and abroad since 2022, most recently from May to September 2024 with Falk Richter for the production of King Lear at Dramaten Stockholm.
Anne was seen on stage as a performer at the Münchner Kammerspiele in Heldenplatz [D.: Falk Richter] in 2021/22. For her own work ALLES GOLD, nichts glänzt, Anne rewrote Chekhov’s Platonov. As part of the Long Night for New Drama 2021, Anne organized the staged reading of In The Name Of by Allex. Fassberg, which received the Munich Prize for German-language drama. In July 2023, Anne Sophie Kapsner staged several one-act plays and opera fragments for the festival “Neue Zeit, neue Dramatik” at the Münchner Kammerspiele as part of the PLAYLIST writers’ workshop.

Anne’s works have been performed at studioNAXOS Frankfurt, Mousonturm Frankfurt, Theater HochX Munich, Dschungel Vienna, Pathos Theater Munich and Staatstheater Mainz, among others. She regularly receives funding from the Fonds Darstellende Künste.

From 2022-2024 Anne was part of the international performing art network Future Laboratory, where she* artistically researched queer bodies in repressive systems as well as death, mourning and grieving. In November 2024, she created the spatial installation [Without Title], which was shown at the Grand Théatre de la Ville de Luxembourg. A theater text of the same name is in the making.

In May 2025, Anne Sophie Kapsner will stage the queer feminist western novel The Outlaws by Anna North at Theaterhaus Jena.
