A project by Alejandro Tantanian and Oria Puppo
Based on the novel by Roberto Arlt
Which conspiracy theories permeate and pervade our past and present? We are invited to an information evening that slips away from us and ties us in knots. We become part of a theatrical investigation that deploys research material as well as theoretical and literary reference points to scrutinise the continuation of fascist power structures. How do political cells organise themselves? How does a (potentially violent) underground form? The inspiration for this devised piece is Roberto Arlt’s novel “The Seven Madmen”, published in Argentina in 1929. In it, conspirators filled with a sense of mission encounter drab, worn-out, lost and sleepwalking figures who seem particularly receptive to the subversive fantasies of the raving, megalomaniac social engineers whose delusions resonate even to our present day.
