Ophelia - Exit Water

Ophelia forms the female counter-figure to Hamlet. She is described by Shakespeare as a loving and reckless woman who falls into madness and finally drowns in a creek. The popular figure has ever since ignited male fantasies and has been the target of gender-specific projections. Based on this observation, an attempt is made to let the mute Ophelias find their contradictions and their voices and to emancipate them from the associative series: woman, madness, water, death. Using lyrical and prose text fragments, strategies are played out to enable object-like Ophelias to become subjects of their own narratives.

There will be an artist talk in English on 16th of December following the second performance.

Офелія утворює жіночу контрафігуру Гамлета. Шекспір описує її як люблячу і безрозсудну дівчину, яка божеволіє і, врешті, тоне у потоці води. Відтоді цей популярний образ запалює чоловічі фантазії і стає мішенню гендерних проекцій. На основі цього спостереження вистава дає спробу дозволити німій Офелії знайти свої суперечності й голоси та вивільнити їх із асоціативного ряду: жінка, божевілля, вода, смерть. Використовуючи ліричні та прозові фрагменти тексту, розігруються стратегії, які дозволяють об’єктоподібним Офеліям стати суб’єктами власних історій.

Після другого показу 16 грудня відбудеться обговорення з творцями вистави. Мова обговорення - англійська.
