Reading & speech in Turkish and German
Murathan Mungan was born in Istanbul and spent much of his childhood and youth in Mardin. After studying theater at Ankara University, he worked as a dramaturge in Istanbul and Ankara and directed a theater festival for young audiences, among other things. At the same time, he worked as the managing editor of the feature section of a daily newspaper.
His first book “Mahmud and Yezida” was published in 1980 and was adapted for the stage immediately afterwards. With his play “Geyikler Lanetler”, premiered at the Ankara State Theater in 1999, he was invited to the “Theater of the World” festival and to the Schaubühne. Many of his plays and novels have been translated into several languages and performed internationally. Mungan also gained fame for the song lyrics he wrote for renowned Turkish singers.
Our ensemble members André Benndorff and Martin Weigel will read from his latest novel “995 km”. The story is about a contract killer who murdered a Kurdish intellectual. It is the story of a journey from East to West. Afterwards Murathan Mungan will give a speech.
