With texts and ideas by Claude Cahun
Directed by: Pınar Karabulut
Claude Cahun’s first-person protagonist wallows as much in melancholy as in mythology, dresses up and disrobes to excess, loves the play of the waves as much as that of love and creates spaces of poetic fuzziness beyond binary models. With texts translated from the French into German specifically for this production, director Pınar Karabulut dedicates herself to the darkly dazzling, radically experimental, at times enthusiastically evil but also self-deprecating poetic work of Claude Cahun (1894-1954), most recently honoured in exhibitions around the world chiefly as a photographer of transgender self-portraits. An evening brimming with light and darkness, “pink magic” and “pure poisons”, with guest appearances by Narcissus, Salmacis and Hermaphroditus, Sappho and Salomé, the beauty, the snake and the beast.
