Svenja Gassen

Svenja Gassen designs costumes for film and theater productions. While studying fashion in Berlin in the early 2000s, she met the design team at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and worked there as a costume assistant on various productions. As a costume designer, she has collaborated with René Pollesch, Jan Koslowski, Nele Stuhler, Sebastian Nübling, and Andrea Moses across the German-speaking world. She maintains a close working relationship with theater director Krzysztof Garbaczewski, with whom she has developed projects in Germany, Poland, and Russia. She has also collaborated repeatedly with directors Łukasz Twarkowski and Krzysztof Skonieczny. In 2014, Gassen won the VSK Advancement Award for Best Costume Design at the Hof International Film Festival. In addition to her work as a costume designer, Gassen teaches the conceptualization, design, and visual presentation of fashion collections. She has created costumes for projects by visual artists, including the video work *Phase Shifting Index* by Jeremy Shaw. She also has a long-standing collaboration with director Christina Tscharyski.

At the Münchner Kammerspiele, she designed the costumes for the production "WoW – World on the Wirecard" during the 2023/24 season. She will return to the MK in the 2026/27 season for the production "Limina".
