Writing about “The situation” #1

On October 7, 2023, the worst nightmares of the Jewish world became reality with Hamas’ terrorist invasion of Israel. Due to the subsequent war in Israel and Gaza and the increasingly anti-Semitic public in the diaspora, it is impossible to predict what the future holds, but one thing seems clear: Everything is at stake now. In the project “Writing about ‘The Situation’” by the Institute for New Social Sculpture, the Israeli and Diaporean playwrights and writers Lena Gorelik, Julya Rabinowich, Hadar Galron, Avishai Milstein, Roy Chen and Maya Arad Yasur will continuously write new literary texts about a present characterized by uncertainty and pain between October 2023 and October 2024. A reading with actors from the texts will take place approximately every two months. The reading on 24.01. marks the start: Actors from the ensemble will perform the newly written texts. This will be followed by a discussion with Avishai Milstein and Lena Gorelik, moderated by Rachel Salamander. The reading will be framed by projections of Israeli art created after the massacre.
