Yuriy Sych

Born in Ukraine, pianist, keyboardist and music producer Yuriy Sych completed his classical music studies with distinction in his home town of Ivano-Frankivsk at the age of 18. He continued his piano studies in Frankfurt am Main at the University of Music and Performing Arts with Prof. Irina Edelstein.

In 2006, he founded the Contrast Quartet, with which he also received the “Jazz Scholarship of the City of Frankfurt am Main”. In addition to classical music, he also studied “Jazz and Popular Music” at the Mannheim University of Music with Prof. Jörg Reiter.
Sych was awarded the Hessian Jazz Prize in 2016 with the Contrast Trio. This was followed by appearances at numerous festivals and venues in Germany, Ukraine (Alfa Jazz Fest, Odesa Jazz Festival), Greece and France, sometimes in collaboration with the Goethe Institute. Sych has played at the German Jazz Festival in various years with Peter Klohmann, Christof Lauer, Patrice Héral and the Contrast Trio.


Yuriy Sych works regularly at the Schauspiel Frankfurt and the Münchner Kammerspiele. Most recently, he was seen and heard in the productions “The.Fe.Male.Trail” (with Katharina Bach), “Macbeth” and “Heute leider Konzert”. In the new season, Sych will be a permanent member of the ensemble in the production “Very Rich Angels” at the Münchner Kammerspiele with Jelena Kuljić and Jacob Suske, among others.
