Jouanna Hassoun

Jouanna Hassoun is the managing director of Transaidency e.V., a political educator and human rights activist. She is of Palestinian origin and fled to Germany as a child due to the civil war in Lebanon. Among other honours, she has been awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin for her civic engagement. Jouanna Hassoun has co-founded numerous initiatives and projects, including the educational association Transaidency e.V. in 2015, which is dedicated to humanitarian aid. She also initiated the “Make Hummus Not Walls” project, which addresses the Israel-Palestine conflict, and most recently the “Building Bridges” project. Following 7 October, she launched the “Trialoge” project together with Shai Hoffmann, in which they speak to pupils in schools across Germany about their feelings regarding the war in Gaza and Israel.
