Dr. Asmae Ourkiya
Dr. Asmae Ourkiya (They/Them) is the founder of The Ecofeminist Institute, which focuses on holistic education, training, consultancy, and research to tackle climate change and environmental challenges. They earned their Ph.D. from Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick, with a thesis titled “Queer Ecofeminism: From Binary Environmental Endeavours to Postgender Pursuits,” published by Rowman & Littlefield. Currently, Dr. Ourkiya is writing their second book, Queer Intersectional Ecofeminism: Theories, Practices, and Future Directions, set for publication by Springer Nature in late 2026. With over 10 years of experience as a writer, speaker, researcher, and consultant, Asmae has contributed to numerous books, EU environmental reports, and magazines, emphasizing the intertwined nature of social and climate justice. They believe that achieving climate justice requires addressing social justice, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals. Currently, Asmae serves as the Media and Engagement Manager at the European Geosciences Union in Munich, Germany, where they manage press releases, coordinate press activities, and oversee the EGU blogs.
