Moved by the Motion (Wu Tsang, Tosh Basco, Asma Maroof, Josh Johnson, Patrick Belaga)
Moved by the Motion is an interdisciplinary collective based in Zurich since 2019. Their work deals with popular narratives and complex social issues and is characterised by an innovative, sensual aesthetic. Moved by the Motion was founded in Los Angeles in 2013 by Wu Tsang and Tosh Basco. Today, the core team includes choreographer Josh Johnson and musician Asma Maroof. Their works include Sudden Rise (2019), Compositions I, II, IV (2020), The show is over (2020), Orpheus (2021), Moby Dick; or, The Whale (2022), Pinocchio (2023), The Tempest (2024), Carmen (2024) and Robin Hood (2025). Their work has been invited to the Vienna Festival (Pinocchio 2023, Robin Hood 2025) and the Holland Festival (Moby Dick 2022, Carmen 2024). The film performance Moby Dick toured extensively, including at The Shed in NYC (with the New York Philharmonic), the Rise Festival (Sydney) and Luma (Arles). Independently of the Schauspielhaus Zürich, the works have been shown in renowned art exhibitions, including the Whitney Biennial 2022, the Venice Biennale 2022 and Manifesta 2024.
