Julian Nida-Rümelin
Julian Nida-Rümelin is professor emeritus of philosophy and political theory at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and former president of the German Society for Philosophy. He was Minister of State for Culture in Schröder’s first cabinet from 2000 to 2002, is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and has held numerous visiting professorships in the US and Italy. From 2020 to 2024, he was Vice-Chair of the German Ethics Council. Since 2018, Nida-Rümelin has been Director of the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) and, since October 2022, Founding Rector of the Humanistic University Berlin.
His most recent publications include: “A Theory of Practical Reason” (DeGruyter 2020), “Ears of Corn in the Wind: Political Orientation in Challenging Times” (2024), and his major political work: “What Constitutes Democracy and How It Can Emerge from Crisis” (2025).
He is a recipient of the European Medal of the Bavarian State Government and the Bavarian Order of Merit.
