Evgeni Orkin

Born in 1977 in Lviv (Ukraine), Evgeni Orkin first studied clarinet and composition with Yevhen Stankovych at the National Music Academy in Kyiv. He continued his studies at the conservatories in Utrecht and Mannheim, majoring in clarinet, conducting, and composition under Ulrich Leyendecker and Ernst Bechert. Evgeni Orkin is the composer of eleven chamber symphonies, seven large-scale symphonies, solo concertos for violin, piano, saxophone, and clarinet, the oratorio *Anne’s Passion* based on texts from Anne Frank’s diaries, the opera *Magister Ludi*, several works of musical theater, and a large number of chamber music works. His works have been performed at many international festivals, including the Kontraste Festival in Lviv, the Kyiv Musikfest, the New Music Festival in Odesa, the Heidelberg Spring, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the Vienna Music Weeks, the Weimar Arts Festival, Young Euro Classics, and the Lucerne Music Festival.

He has collaborated closely with many renowned artists, including Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sol Gabetta, Oksana Lyniv, Andrii Murza, Alexey Semenenko, Alexander Gordon, Giora Feidman, Hobart Earl, and Sebastian Lastein. As a clarinetist, he has made a name for himself particularly through world premieres of new works, including pieces dedicated to him by Silverstrov, Stankowytsch, Andrikopoulos, Corté-Real, Bechert, and Hermann.
