Nuphar Barkol

Nuphar Barkol was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 1989. She studied acting at the Beit Zvi School of Performing Arts and earned a bachelor’s degree in theater studies, specializing in theater directing, from Tel Aviv University. Since 2013, she has worked as a theater director in the independent scene and at acting academies in Israel, also designing the scenography for her works, e.g., Krankheit der Jugend (Disease of Youth) and the opera Le Nozze di Figaro.

In 2017, she worked as co-curator of “Stage 3,” the small stage of the Be’er Sheva Theater, Israel. In the same year, she participated in the International Forum of the Berlin Theatertreffen with artists from all over the world. In 2021, she moved to Germany and studied stage design and scenic space at the Technical University of Berlin. Her projects explore language, physicality, and aesthetics as political structures in order to make contemporary social processes visible and create spaces for imagination and alternative realities.
