Matthias Seier

Matthias Seier, born in 1993 in the Münsterland region. Studied cultural and literary studies as well as sociology in Dortmund and Athens. From 2014, assistant dramaturg; from 2018 to 2020, dramaturg at Schauspiel Dortmund. Since 2020, dramaturg at the Volkstheater Wien. Has worked with, amongst others, Kay Voges, Claudia Bauer, Calle Fuhr, Leonie Böhm, Alexander Giesche, Mechthild Harnischmacher, Olivia Axel Scheucher and DARUM. Further work as a dramaturg and writer includes roles at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Volksbühne Berlin, as well as teaching positions at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. The productions he has supervised – “DAS INTERNAT” (directed by Ersan Mondtag, 2018), “humanistää!” based on Ernst Jandl (directed by Claudia Bauer, 2022), “[EOL]. END OF LIFE” (directed by DARUM, 2024) and “FRÄULEIN ELSE” (directed by Leonie Böhm, 2025) were all invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen. In a critics’ poll conducted by the trade magazine Theater heute, his dramaturgy for “humanistää!” was voted the best dramaturgy of the 2021/22 season.
