Lizzy Timmers

Born in 1980, she grew up in Rotterdam. She studied at the drama school in Maastricht and has been creating her own plays as a director and performer since 2003, including at the Rotterdam Production House, the Grand Theater Groningen, and De Veenfabriek in Leiden. Her plays have been performed at festivals such as the Ruhrtriennale and Theater aan Zee. She has worked with many different groups and artists, including Sadettin Kirmiziyüz, Laura van Dolron, The Dutch Chamber Choir, and the artist collective Wunderbaum. Since the 2018/19 season, she has been a permanent member of the ensemble at Theaterhaus Jena, where she has developed her own works. From 2022 to 2024, she co-directed Theaterhaus Jena with Maarten van Otterdijk, which was awarded the German Theater Prize during this period and was invited to the Berlin Theater Meeting for the first time. Her production “John en Gena” (in collaboration with Wunderbaum) was voted one of the top five best productions of 2024 by the NRC newspaper.
