Elisa Hipólito do Espiríto Santo

Elisa Hipólito do Espiríto Santo is a Brazilian Black anthropologist, a researcher at Afro-Cebrap (Center for Research and Training on Race, Gender, and Racial Justice at CEBRAP), and a Knowledge Curator at Inesplorato. Her research journey has focused on hair, Afro hair salons, identities, Black feminism, and Black epistemologies. She has conducted ethnographies in hair salons frequented by Black Brazilian women and immigrant women from African countries. More recently, her research also explores the social markers of difference and inequality related to race, gender, nationality/locality, Afro-diasporic studies, and immigration.
