Nur Sera Beysun
Nur Sera Beysun is a deaf performer whose first languages are Turkish Sign Language (TiD) and German Sign Language (DGS). She made her first public appearance in 2010 at the Sign Language Festival, where she took second place in the sign poetry category. Since then, she has given numerous solo performances and collaborated with various artists such as Ela Beysun, Jon Savkin, Eli Brichta, and Kassandra Wedel.
At the age of twelve, she joined Kassandra Wedel’s dance group “Nikita” and has been continuously involved in various artistic projects ever since.
She was part of Kareen Breece’s project “Shout of Loud,” which deals with different forms of expression through language, movement, and presence.
In addition, she has participated in several productions within the deaf community, including the play “The Dress” at the Alpha Theater, directed by Kassandra Wedel, which was awarded best theater group at DEGETH, and “Gebärdensturm” (Sign Language Storm), directed by Dominik Nimar, which received a special prize there.
Nur Sera and Jon Savkin form the duo JONU. At the Pop-Kultur Festival in Berlin, they presented a video performance for the song “You So Done” by Noga Erez.
Nur Sera regularly performs at Deaf events and has participated in several readings of “Zusammensein” (Being Together) by Hadija Haruna-Oelker.
She was part of the ensemble in the musical theater production “Die Erde über mir” (The Earth Above Me), a collaboration between the Schauburg and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, playing the role of Sibel in German Sign Language.
She also performed the German national anthem at an NFL event in Berlin.
In addition to her artistic work, Nur Sera studies education at LMU Munich with psychology as a minor. She works as a deafblind assistant, is training to become a sign language teacher, and already teaches sign language courses. Since 2022, she has also been a board member of the Initiative Gehörlosen Jugend (IGJ).
