Michaela Steiger
Michaela Steiger completed her acting training in New York. Her first permanent engagement took her to Theater Basel, where she worked with directors including Jossi Wieler, Andreas Kriegenburg, Frank Castorf, and Barbara Frey. She then joined the ensemble at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus.
Under the artistic direction of Thomas Ostermeier, she became a member of the ensemble at the Schaubühne in Berlin. From 2002 to 2011, numerous guest engagements took Michaela Steiger to the Hamburg Schauspielhaus, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Gorki Theater Berlin, Zurich Schauspielhaus, the Munich Kammerspiele (as Christine in “Trauer muss Elektra tragen,” directed by Stefan Pucher, Frau Prantl in “Faith, Love, Hope,” directed by Stephan Kimmig), and to the Comédie de Genève. From 2011 to 2016, she was a permanent ensemble member at the Residenztheater in Munich, where she appeared, among other roles, as the Marquise de Mertieul in “Dangerous Liaisons” (directed by Katrine Wiedemann), in Frank Castorf’s “Journey to the End of the Night,” and in “The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant” (directed by Martin Kuseij).
She has been a regular guest artist at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus since the 2016/17 season. In 2022, she performed at the Bavarian State Opera in the contemporary opera *Bluthaus* (directed by Claus Guth). At the Schauspiel Köln, she has appeared since the 2023/24 season in the productions “Exil” and “Ein von Schatten begrenzter Raum” (both directed by Nuran David Calis), and at the Münchner Kammerspiele in 2024–25 in the play “Sie kam aus Mariupol” (directed by Stas Zhyrkov). She is a lecturer in acting at the August Everding Theater Academy. She also works regularly in film and television.
