Lies Pauwels

Lies Pauwels, born in Ghent (Belgium) in 1968, is a director and actress. She has worked closely with Alain Platel and Arne Sierens, as well as with the theater groups Stella den Haag and Het Toneelhuis, and was awarded best actress of the season in 2011 for her role in Rob de Graaf’s Freetown in Amsterdam. Her productions are created in close collaboration with the actors on the basis of controlled improvisations and have already been shown at the Manchester International Festival, Singapore Arts Festival and LIFT Festival in London. She has worked at the National Theatre of Scotland, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Burgtheater Wien, Theater Basel, Berliner Ensemble, LOD muziektheater and Theater Hetpaleis in Antwerp, where the internationally successful original production The Hamilton Complex was created in 2013. William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” (Season 24/25) is Lies Pauwels´ first work at the Münchner Kammerspiele.
