Ying Yue

Ying Yue (she/her) grew up in the easternmost archipelago of China (Ying is her family name) and studied Audiovisual Media Design at the Chinese University of the Arts in Shanghai and Stage Design & Scenography at the Technical University of Berlin.

Through her work as a VJ, technician, light operator and workshop manager in the fields of performance, concert and installation in Shanghai, she gained extensive knowledge in the fields of digital media and event technology.

She is particularly interested in identity, social justice and the climate crisis. In various collectives and her own works, she also repeatedly takes on staging, dramaturgical and performative tasks and roles. Her installative stage spaces are innovatively designed and experiment with a variety of materials. The cultural dialog between her Chinese background and Western perspectives permeates her works and lends them a special complexity.

As a set designer and scenographer, she works both backstage and sometimes on stage. Her immersive performance “Bon Appétit, Baby” deals with prejudices, images of femininity and the pleasurable way in which they are viewed. She was invited by the Winterquartier of the Stadttheater Spandau, the Zeitzone Berlin gallery, the 48 Stunden Neukölln Festival and the Festival für Freunde, and could be seen again at the Habibi Kiosk in Munich in 2025.

Her work has been seen at the Münchner Kammerspiele, Dock 11 Berlin, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Thalia in der Gaußstraße and Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, among others.
