Martin Valdés-Stauber
Martin Valdés-Stauber founded the artistic research initiative “Erinnerung als Arbeit an der Gegenwart” in 2021, which he has led ever since. Since 2018, he has been collaborating with Janne and Klaus Weinzierl on the long-term project SCHICKSALE, which explores the biographies of Kammerspiele staff members who were persecuted under the Nazi regime.
He studied sociology and economics in Munich, Friedrichshafen, and Berkeley. After completing a research master’s degree at the University of Cambridge (with honors), he served as a dramaturg on the artistic leadership team of the Munich Kammerspiele (Theater of the Year in 2019 and 2020) from 2017 to 2023. From 2023 to 2026, Martin Valdés-Stauber was a dramaturg at the Schaubühne Berlin, where he worked regularly with Yael Ronen, among others (“Bucket List” invited to the 2024 Theatertreffen). He is currently conducting research as a fellow at the LMU’s “Käte Hamburger Research Centre” on changes in memory work in a globalizing world.
Martin Valdés-Stauber initiates and curates art projects and theater festivals and works as an author, dramaturg, and director. The plays he has contributed to have won numerous awards and have already been performed in over 30 countries.
His artistic work is characterized by a diversity of forms and an interest in various performing arts: he maintains close working relationships with choreographer Marlene Monteiro Freitas, cabaret artist Maxi Schafroth, and the Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich (JCOM). His production “TIME BUSTERS” was honored in 2024 with an invitation to the Theatertreffen der Jugend. His collaboration with Marco Layera and Elisa Leroy, “Oasis de la impunidad”, was included in the New York Times’ annual selection in 2022. In 2021, he was awarded the Marie Zimmermann Fellowship for Dramaturgy.
