For the second time in a row, Münchner Kammerspiele (team around Matthias Lilienthal) have been voted number one – and thus Theater of the Year – in the critics survey conducted by the magazine “Theater heute”.
We congratulate Matthias Lilienthal, his team and all employees of Münchner Kammerspiele on this success. Congratulations!
We also congratulate Sandra Hüller and Fabian Hinrichs (actress and actor of the year), Florentina Holzingers (production of the year: “Dance”), Ewald Palmetshofers ( play of the year: “The Lost”), Julia Oschatz for Christian Weises (The stage design of the year: “Hamlet” production in Berlin), Victoria Behr (The costume of the year: for Herbert Fritsch’s “Amphitryon”) and Gina Haller, Johannes Nussbaum, Caren Jeß (Young Artist of the Year).
MK: Don’t let reality rest
MK: Update 1
Münchner Kammerspiele is the theatre of the city. An aesthetic organ, a social organ, an organ that seeks to extend freedoms. We enable social exchange, open up perspectives, narrate stories unheard. And we ask for new responsibilities in theatre: Who speaks, who decides how and which things are being told?
We see theatre as a laboratory – and as raw material for future forms of living together. As a place where new social knowledge is being generated. Hereby we are looking for new terms, foreign beautiful languages, living corporealities and for the connecting narratives of the future. We invite authors to create new texts in close exchange. We extend the forms of expression of spoken theatre naturally with dance, music, cinematic forms – and by collective working methods. We work from the heart of a large ensemble of artists* firmly attached to the house.
The next five years are for us one overall project. We always want to think of artistic and institutional processes in such a way that there is room for real developments and that changes become possible step by step. We would like to be accessible and constantly review our accessibility. We do not let reality alone. It does not leave us alone either.
For now in May 2020 it is unfortunately impossible for us to reliably plan the performance dates of the upcoming season. Under these circumstances we will have to communicate with you at short notice and use digital paths even more strongly than before.
