A TANZFONDS-ERBE PROJECT. ESSAY PERFORMANCE BY HAUPTAKTION / PART OF THE RODEO FESTIVAL
In what way is the imagined community of “Germany” associated with the gymnastics and its history? The Munich-based group HAUPTAKTION focuses on this issue and traces a development that ranges from military exercises on Berlin’s Hasenheide park in 1811, to the “Wie bunt ist das denn!” (How colourful is that?) Festival of International Gymnastics in Berlin in 2017. Eight performers use choreographic and expressive movements from gymnastics and synchronous displays to analyse the emergence of the “German body” and its ideological manifestations. “Versuch über das Turnen” was premiered in the last edition of “Spielart”. A year later, HAUPTAKTION are now showing a much-developed version of their performative essay in the Münchner Kammerspiele as part of the “RODEO” festival.
