By Thom Luz, two dates only
In his “Handbook of Unusual Natural Phenomena” from 1974, the American physicist William R. Corliss cataloged weather anomalies that have been scientifically proven but rarely observed, such as rain falling upwards, quadruple sunsets as well as the reverse sequence of the seasons. In the foreword he notes: “You understand the world better by means of its peculiarities. It is amazing that nobody before me ever had the idea of establishing a complete library of anomalies from all fields of science.” The new production of the Swiss stage director Thom Luz is based on Corliss’ descriptions and their musical reconstruction. The four exceptional musicians turn into weather wizards and install a weather symphony for trombone, marine trumpet, audiotape and light machine which takes on a life of its own on stage. A marveling approach to the wonder of reality and a bow to everything that we do not understand.
