A Tanzfonds Erbe project. Performance essay by HAUPTAKTION
In their new production, the Munich theatre group HAUPTAKTION draws on the choreographic vocabulary of the gymnastics movement in an exploration of the relations between the body, community and nationalism. A diverse group of performers delves into the history of gymnastics, visiting gymnastics associations and appropriating relevant practices – and in the process, they themselves become gymnasts. The result of their research is a German national gymnastics show, a spectacle of inadequate bodies making use of the staging methods of large gymnastics festivals.
