The essay-performance “Situation mit Zuschauern” (Situation with Viewers) negotiates the ethics of watching others and the desire to be watched. In between curtains and the documentation of extreme violence, this work gradually approaches the limits of what is tolerable: How political is the view of the person watching? Where is the threshold between testimony and voyeurism? What should be seen? What place is better suited to this study than the theatre, a site whose very nature is to put things on display and whose only irreducible component is the role of the spectator.
Warning: “Situation mit Zuschauern” explores the boundaries of spectatorship. Individual images and scenes contain potentially disturbing content. Enter at your own risk. 18+!
