IBSEN: PEER GYNT

By Markus&Markus

play

Peer Gynt is a highly gifted dancer, womanizer and pilot. He knows how to handle a machine-gun. But the button molder wants to remelt his soul like a misshapen lead figure. The only way for Peer to avoid this fate is to prove that he was himself in his lifetime. Peer Gynt has nine children, but he cannot meet them since a wall has been erected. Peer Gynt suffers from dementia. What is the self? And who decides whose reality is valid?” This is what the theater collective Markus&Markus that was founded in Hildesheim says about their new production. "Peer Gynt" is the third and last part of a trilogy of performances by the group that approaches Henrik Ibsen’s plots in a radical manner. The topicality of the artistic practice of Markus&Markus is a result of the confrontation of documents of reality with the stage as machine of illusions.
