Concept and staging: JÉRÔME BEL
“Nothing other than normal people get together – with an enchanting result”. This was the comment of the specialty magazine “tanz” regarding the most recent coup of the choreographer Jérôme Bel, one of the most sought-after stars of the international performance scene. Subsequent to his experience with the production “Disabled Theater”, which was created together with the Zurich Theater HORA and focused on performers who are mentally challenged, Jérôme Bel reiterates the following question in his most recent work: Which potentials of extension are generated by people who are usually excluded from the theater? How can the rigid power system of representation be turned into a democratic event where the best possible results of people’s abilities are allowed to take place beyond the concepts of perfection and virtuosity? The casting for the ensemble of the “Gala” guest performance will be done on-site in Munich. The cast will consist of a mix of professionals and amateurs. A co-production of JOINT ADVENTURES – Walter Heun within the framework of ACCESS TO DANCE in cooperation with the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Unterföhring community center.
With friendly support by the Institut français and the Richard Stury Stiftung. ACCESS TO DANCE is facilitated by the Department of Culture of the City of Munich, the District of Upper Bavaria and the Bavarian Association for Contemporary Dance (BLZT) with funding by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, Science and Art.
