Kammer 2

Since the beginning of this decade, Florentina Holzinger has added to the international performance scene with vertiginous acrobatics, muscular women’s bodies and martial-art combat scenes. Pop cultural references and a penchant for trash also abound. “Tanz”, her new solo piece, is the last part of a trilogy about the body as a spectacle and its disciplining. The setting is a ballet class under the direction of Beatrice Schönherr, the first ballerina to dance “Le Sacre du Printemps” naked in John Neumeier’s arrangement. The performers undergo a strict training in “action ballet”, so-called “Sylphic Studies”. In joint rituals they learn to control body and mind and acquire supernatural powers such as flying. A quest for perfection in a transient world where the devil is transformed into the sublime. In an operatic setting, brutal parodies of sensational images are created, like those we are familiar with from ballet, comedies and pornography.

In some scenes self-injurious acts are shown that could have a disturbing effect on some viewers. We point out that a lot of blood and explicit nakedness will be on display.
