Based on the novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Director: Christopher Rüping
Everyone does it. Everyone gambles. Not participating would mean losing one’s grip: The families have put everything at stake long ago. Money is at risk of becoming scarce. But there is the hope to marry well. Initially the private tutor Aleksej Iwanowitsch stands on the sideline of this actually wealthy society as if he were able to be its observer. But due to his love for the aristocratic Polina and his desire to belong, he becomes hopelessly entrapped in the ecstasy of Rouletteville.
During the first years of his career, Christopher Rüping has attracted attention, not only by his staging of Vinterberg’s “Das Fest” (The Celebration) in Stuttgart (invited to this year’s Theatertreffen). He will be in-house director at the Münchner Kammerspiele starting with the 2016/17 season.
