Reading by and with Heinz Strunk
The Hamburg author and comedy star Heinz Strunk has written a fantastically gloomy, dazzingly comical and infinitely sad novel which, for the first time, is devoid of any autobiographical features. It is about the life story of Fritz Honka. Those who grew up in Germany during the 1970s have known him as the very personification of evil. Scarred by abuse and violence, he murdered women who he took home from the Hamburg night-owl bar “Zum Goldenen Handschuh”. In a spectacular court case he attained frightening notoriety. With narrative furor, historical precision and tremendous compassion, Heinz Strunk draws the image of a world which remains caught in an eternal cycle of alcohol, sex and crime.
