A CONVERSATION ON ART AND POLITICS WITH JULIANE REBENTISCH, PAULA-IRENE VILLA BRASLAVSKY (LMU) AND ISABELLE GRAW (STÄDELSCHULE FRANKFURT)
In Dreieck (Triangle), the philosopher Juliane Rebentisch and two guests discuss topics that fall between the poles of art and politics. The fifth episode is dedicated to the body as the scene of a dispute over social norms. The current boom in performance formats in the visual arts and theatre represents a critical negotiation of the conditions under which bodies can claim public visibility. In doing so, art takes the side of non-conformity. However, this causes performance to correspond to a social form in which the performance of uniqueness has become the norm and generates its own value. The art historian Isabelle Graw (Städelschule Frankfurt) and the sociologist Paula-Irene Villa Braslavsky (LMU Munich) will discuss the potentials and problems of the performing body today with Juliane Rebentisch.
