DISCUSSIONS ON ART AND POLITICS WITH JULIANE REBENTISCH, SUSANNE LEEB AND NIKOLAUS MÜLLER-SCHÖLL
In Dreieck (Triangle), the philosopher Juliane Rebentisch and two guests discuss topics that fall between the poles of art and politics. The second episode looks at criticism of the visual arts and theatre institutions. The focus is on approaches that address these institutions, their social conditions and their ideological function in the respective artistic medium. Both the visual arts and the theatre already look back on a history of such artistic debates. But how does this critique articulate itself in the present? What understanding of the institution is it based on? What conditions surround it? And how is it taken up by institutions? Is criticism defused by institutions, or is it an occasion for them to undergo a self-critical transformation, which in turn has to be rethought? What would a critical institution look like? The art historian Susanne Leeb (Leuphana University, Lüneburg) and the theatre scholar Nikolaus Müller-Schöll (Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main) will be taking part in the discussion with Juliane Rebentisch.
