The transdisciplinary works of the duo Amnesia Scanner are located in pop culture, and the visual and performing arts. Founded by Ville Haimala and Martti Kalliala, the ensemble performs in galleries, clubs and theatres and is interested in the way technology changes our views of and actions in the world. Their focus is on system weaknesses, information overload and sensory excesses.
Their debut album Another Life, which was released last year, uses a human and a disembodied, non-human voice, which answers to the name of Oracle. Its vocal performance ranges from exuberant mania to anxious fear. In conjunction with pop-song structures that are used for the first time in its music, Amnesia Scanner impressively thematise a schizophrenic present that is shaped both by tales of an emerging apocalypse and the rescue of mankind through technology.
When Ville Haimala is not working on the Amnesia scanner stream, he works as a composer and producer with a variety of musicians and visual artists including FKA Twigs, Holly Herndon and Anne Imhof. Martti Kalliala is co-director of the think tank Nemesis.
