Unlearning Masculinities with Paul Brodowsky, Fikri Anıl Altıntaş and Ole Liebl
In his new book ‘Brutal Fragile Typen’, Ole Liebl asks: Why are emotions still such a challenge for men?
Between the reading and the discussion, we want to explore this question together, and we’ve invited two further experts to join us: Fikri Anıl Altıntaş and Paul Brodowsky.
We know the type: men who cannot – or will not – show their feelings. When their emotions do become visible, they often take the form of anger, joy and pride, but rarely of sadness, doubt or vulnerable love. Women and queer people complain that they end up doing the emotional labour that men deny them, themselves and each other. Yet men, too, pay a high price for this: they suffer from social isolation, superficial friendships and above-average suicide rates. Why does such a destructive system persist?
Ole Liebl will read from *Brutal Fragile Typen* and join a discussion with the authors Fikri Anıl Altıntaş and Paul Brodowsky – *30 Real Boys* (2026). Together, they aim above all to uncover the political interconnections between emotions and masculinities that continue to prevent us from being on an equal emotional footing to this day. Sophie Eisenried will guide us through the evening.
