Die Lüge in der Wahrheit suchen – Antisemitismus in den Künsten

The arts are spaces of the imagination and therefore play a specific role in the history and present-day reality of anti-Semitism. It is the arts that invent anti-Semitic images and narratives about Jewish people, which are so pervasive that they overshadow the existence and history of real Jewish people. The new anthology *Anti-Semitism in the Arts* introduces readers to various forms of anti-Semitism and examines how these manifest themselves in the history and present day of the visual arts, literature, theatre and music.

It also addresses current debates that are shaping our understanding of anti-Semitism in culture. The volume concludes with practical guidelines for cultural institutions on the topics of event disruptions and public relations. This marks the first time a foundational work has been published that is aimed at anyone working in artistic contexts who wishes to engage with the issue of anti-Semitism.

The anthology brings together contributions by Jakob Baier, Juliette Brungs, Ana Hoffner ex-Prvulovic*, Eva Marburg, Maria Kanitz and Lukas Geck, Steffen Klävers, Doron Rabinovici, Nike Thurn, Tina Turnheim and Tom David Uhlig.

As part of ‘Revisiting Kammerspiele – Conference on Theatre, German-Jewish History and the Legacy of Nazism’, in cooperation with the Department of Theatre Studies at LMU Munich, editor Stella Leder and author Eva Marburg from the Institute for New Social Sculpture provide a clear introduction to anti-Semitism in art and culture.

The book launch is open to the public and can be attended independently of the conference.
