„Au au au Hi hi hi - A Temporary Monument“

“Au au au Hi hi hi” was performed in 2025 as a four-act walking theatre piece exploring the politics of memory in public spaces across Munich. The artists Samuel Fischer Glaser and Angela Stiegler performed alongside Guida Miranda, Ieva Jakušonoka and the noise duo Palanca (Daniel Door & Constanza Meléndez Tohá) alongside post-war sculptures that exhibit an aesthetic continuity with the Nazi era. The starting point was the sculpture *Gehende* (1943) by Anton Hiller, which stood in the garden of the Lenbachhaus until June 2026. Against the backdrop of these sculptural stages, the life and work of Philipp Auerbach in Munich were examined, and questions were raised about the never-ending process of so-called ‘reparations’.

The project was realised as part of Public Art München Solo and Public History München. The artists’ book, now being published by Edition Metzel, presents the performance script translated into English and is accompanied by a photo essay by the artists and two essays by the authors Astrid Schmetterling (London) and Magdalena Wisniowska (GiG Munich). At the book launch, there will be a staged reading from the book, and the artists will engage in conversation with the authors. In the afternoon, a zine workshop with Die Pastinaken will introduce the idea of publishing as a monument.
