Open (Theater) House All Night Long! — 100 years ago, the Münchner Kammerspiele moved to Maximilianstraße — right in the heart of Munich. Join us in celebrating this theater and all the possibilities it has to offer. The entire program is free!

On 24 October, the lines between time periods blur – it is 1926, it is 2026. Above all, however, it is time for a housewarming party! This is where everyone who wants to be themselves without being pushed to the margins of society comes together. The evening kicks off at 5.00 pm with the start of the durational performance ‘What the Stories Tell’ at the Habibi Kiosk. At 6.00 pm, the doors of the Schauspielhaus will open, where a vampire, a chef, a well-known actress and various four-legged friends will invite guests to enjoy some cake, before a dance intervention by Doris Uhlich and her ensemble draws the audience deeper into the architecture of the Art Nouveau theatre. The dance performance ends in the auditorium, which becomes a dance floor for everyone. The chairs have been removed, and a ramp connects the auditorium to the stage.

From 7.30 pm, fictional opening speeches will reflect on the history, present and future of the Münchner Kammerspiele. At 8.00 pm, we’ll celebrate our own adaptability, self-determination and the joy of play with (inter)national and local drag kings and queens, before the audience can take to the Kammerspiele’s most historic stage themselves for a karaoke session!

Once we’ve worked up a sweat and used up our last bit of energy during the aerobics session, we’ll let our imaginations wander into the future: in collaboration with TAM TAM, the legendary event series ‘Long Night of Lucid Dreams’ is taking place at the Schauspielhaus for the very first time. All night long, the doors of the Schauspielhaus – situated on one of the world’s most expensive streets – will be open to anyone who wants to shape their dreams or feel a sense of connection. In ancient Greece, people believed that dreams were inspired by the gods. Let’s dream up what the next 100 years have in store!

Food and drink stalls will cater to your physical well-being and give you the energy you need for the next round on the dance floor. In memory of the famous underground cabaret bar that Valeska Gert opened whilst in exile in New York in the 1940s, TAM TAM’s Beggar Bar in the upper foyer offers a haven for thirsty and restless friends of the avant-garde.

Program

Was die Wände erzählen – 100 Jahre, 100 Leben
Durational Performance

The Habibi Kiosk is transformed into a space of living memory. The ensemble and other staff members of the Kammerspiele, together with associated members of the local community, explore the stories of former employees of the Munich Kammerspiele who were persecuted, displaced or murdered under National Socialism through personal accounts, retellings, dance and plenty of music.

6 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. | Schauspielhaus, Steinfoyer & Charlotthof
Reception: Theatre and cake

Characters from current and past productions extend a warm welcome to the audience at the party marking the 100th anniversary of the Schauspielhaus on Maximilianstraße. Rumour has it that a well-known chef will be sharing the birthday cake with the guests.

Starring: Frangiskos Kakoulakis, Anali Goldberg, Annika Neugart, Annette Paulmann, Michael Pietsch, Konstantin Schumann, Edmund Telgenkämper, and others.
Music: Well Brüder

7:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. | Schauspielhaus, Stage
Opening speeches: For a city theatre

The Münchner Kammerspiele was founded as a private theatre by Jewish families in Munich and supported by them for many years. After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, the theatre was ‘purged’ of so-called ‘Jewish and foreign elements’ and became a municipal theatre under Hitler in 1939. To mark its 100th anniversary, the Kammerspiele and the Institut für Neue Soziale Plastik have published an open call, aimed at Jewish artists and those critical of anti-Semitism, asking for submissions of fictional opening speeches with which the theatre could be inaugurated today. On 24 October, the four selected speeches will be delivered for the first time on the stage of the Schauspielhaus.

Featuring: Anali Goldberg, Annika Neugart, Thomas Schmauser, Anja Signitzer
Texts: Noam Frank, Avishai Milstein, Düzgün Polat, Polina Schneider
Dramaturgy: Hannah Saar

8 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. | Schauspielhaus, Stage
Drag Show: Be who you wanna be!

Drag queen Anali Goldberg from Berlin and actress Maren Solty will be hosting the drag show, featuring illustrious guests from London, North Rhine-Westphalia, Stuttgart and Munich. We’re celebrating the joy of play, of shaping one’s own story, and the adaptability of both the individual and society!

The Long Night of Lucid Dreams

In a truly unique way, the night – long since held dear – takes centre stage at the Schauspielhaus. Make yourselves comfortable, snuggle up in romantic, dreamlike reveries and listen to the ambient sounds, whilst the galleries are haunted and curious figures roam through the night. A mysterious lamp casts a dim glow, the cello opens invisible doors, and a special guest of honour entices us into other realms with an extraordinary set. Who knows what happens when reality goes to sleep?

First come, first served: if you’d like to grab a spot right on stage, you can collect a wristband from the Info Point from 8.00 pm. Pillows and blankets are available on site.
