How does one find the courage to turn a personal experience into something that opens up new avenues for others?

Sogol Kordi is the founder of myProtectify, a digital support service for people affected by domestic violence. Through Maya, an anonymous AI support chat, she aims to make support more accessible: low-threshold, multilingual and available at any time. The idea stemmed from her own personal experience. For years, she herself lived in an abusive relationship and experienced first-hand how difficult it can be to find information, guidance and the right kind of help.

In conversation with Sue, Sogol Kordi explains how a personal experience led to social activism. Together, they discuss shame and a sense of powerlessness, the possibilities and limitations of artificial intelligence in social work, and the question of how we can create a society in which those affected are heard and receive support at an earlier stage.
