About water

To mark the conclusion of Fonds Zero, academia, theatre and the arts come together in a discussion on water – both as a contested means of subsistence and as a vessel for stories.

Prof. Dr Susanne Schmeier – Professor of Water Cooperation – will open the event with her lecture ‘When rivers cross borders: water conflict and cooperation in the context of global crises’. She will focus on water as a geopolitical resource – and on the question of how cooperation can emerge where interests clash.

In the ensuing discussion, the professor will be joined by participants from the MK:Youth Club ‘Der Volksfeind’ and artists from the Longega Project. Together, the panellists will explore different approaches and perspectives on water.
Water becomes the starting point for questions about responsibility and accessibility, about memory and community. What happens when scientific findings clash with economic interests? What can artistic engagement reveal that political and social action often conceals? What stories does water carry within it that are worth passing on?

An evening that brings together knowledge, artistic practice and theatrical experience – and opens up a flow of ideas for the audience.
