by Franz Wanner

In the play “Verüben und Verwerten” (“Perpetrate and Commercialise”), the audience is cast in the role of workshop participants as the facilitator of this fictional course introduces the profit-oriented management of family and corporate histories tainted by the Nazi era. The participants learn how their own personal histories can be leveraged for profit, in spite of the Nazi-era crimes they committed.

Artist Franz Wanner is interested in the discrepancy between the reality and the self-representation of the German Federal Republic and reveals how Nazism continues to exert its influence on contemporary economic liberalism. Following his exhibition “Eingestellte Gegenwarten” (“Suspended Presences”) at the Lenbachhaus, he is continuing his examination of the everyday exploitative practices of Nazi society, particularly through forced labour, and their enduring impact today – this time at the Kammerspiele.
