A triptych on Nazi injustice by Martin Valdés-Stauber
Frangiskos Kakoulakis invites you to the Werk*raum. The actor takes to the stage and recounts how, over the past few years, he has been exploring the Nazis’ murders of patients. His research led him, amongst other places, to Prof. Michael von Cranach and to Kaufbeuren and Haar, where he made a shocking discovery: the Kammerspiel actresses Emmy Rowohlt and Eva Kessler were killed in 1944 at Hungerhaus 22E. The subject continues to haunt him. Kakoulakis, who lives with Trisomy 21 and has been part of the Munich Kammerspiele ensemble since 2020, seeks dialogue and draws the audience into the rabbit hole with him.
A space emerges that also allows others to share their own grappling with Nazi injustices. Radically personal approaches to remembrance are given a voice. They range from the burden of being related to a Nazi propaganda writer to painful Jewish family histories. Gradually, a kaleidoscope of entanglement and persecution emerges. In the face of the Shoah and the murder of patients, one thing is certain for Frangiskos: we must always defend the principle that all people are equal.
