Water carries minerals, memories, smells, residues, stories. It circulates through bodies, landscapes and infrastructure, disappears into pipes and reappears in tears, bottles or images. What is stored in water rarely remains visible – yet continues to have an effect.

‘What does water know – water knows what’ is dedicated to water as a material, cultural and memory-bearing medium. Here, water appears not merely as a resource or natural phenomenon, but as a medium of exchange, relationship and connection: between bodies, places and stories. It is something that collects and is itself collected.

The group exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the Longega Project and the Habibi Kiosk. Curated by the transcultural Munich-based collective Longega Project – comprising Youlee Ku, Nele Ka, Oliver Hausmann, Fabian Feichter, Siyoung Kim and Judith Neunhäuserer – the exhibition brings together individual and collaborative works by the collective’s members, as well as contributions by Anna Pasco Bolta, Anne Marx & Wiebke Müller, Jungmin Park, Kristina Schmidt, Rory Tsapayi and Tea And.

The supporting programme expands the exhibition to include performative, discursive and sensory formats: a musical storytelling performance by the duo Dritte Zeit from the perspective of a waterfall, a water tasting session with hydrofeminist Tea Andreoletti, a guided tour of Munich’s sewer system, and a talk by Rory Tsapayi on water as part of her curatorial practice and research.

The opening will also feature the world premiere of the performance ‘Die Tränen von Longega’ (working title) by Anne Marx and Wiebke Müller, selected via an open call. The work was created during a week-long residency in Longega (South Tyrol, Italy) and traces local stories of tears: What tears have been shed here? Why do people cry? Afterwards, there will be ‘tear drinks’ for everyone.
