The scene of the crime: a small town, a spa resort, a town hall meeting. Just a moment ago, everyone was basking in the glow of expected prosperity. The new spa resort was set to boost the economy, and the future influx of tourists was expected to bring wealth for all. But then it emerges that the spa’s water is contaminated and poses a threat to bathers’ health. Must this information be published in the local media to warn the public, or would it be better for the common good if no one were to find out? Can the small town afford to close the spa and invest in environmental protection instead? Does the interest of an individual take precedence over the interest of the majority when it comes to science? And does the majority hold the power, whilst the individual holds the right? Who still believes in the truth here? And how does democratic opinion-forming actually work?
