‘Listening to Memories’ A workshop on music and memory with Roby Haak and Nikki Georgalas
In collaboration with relatives of the victims of the OEZ attack
An event marking the 10th anniversary of the right-wing terrorist attack on the Olympia shopping centre in Munich — How can you hear a memory?
What forms can we find to commemorate acts of right-wing violence? What role can art and music play in this? Using our contribution to the interdisciplinary project “DisIgnoranz – Seeing Through the Fog of Racism” in January 2026 at the NS Documentation Center, we will demonstrate the approach we have developed to connect and collaborate through music with relatives and those directly “affected” by the right-wing terrorist attack of July 22, 2016, at the Olympia Shopping Center in Munich. We will share our experiences with the participants and explore new ways of collective remembrance through music.
Part of the workshop will be organized in collaboration with the Munich OEZ Remembrance Initiative, which works alongside the relatives to advocate politically for the remembrance of the attack and in the fight against right-wing and racist terror.
