I’m planning to dance to your revolution

In 1926, Otto Falckenberg inaugurated the Münchner Kammerspiele on Maximilian Straße with a production of “Dantons Tod” (“Danton’s Death”) by Georg Büchner. One hundred years later, the Post Paradies collective is marking the theatre’s centenary by joining forces with the Münchner Kammerspiele’s inclusive ensemble and taking on this play about a revolution and its failure. Together, they are embarking on an experiment in co-authorship and considering three tipping points – those eleventh-hour moments – in European and, above all, German history, right up to the present day.

In times of crisis, when hardliners are on the rise everywhere, how can we escape paralysis and return to action? Is revolution ever possible without violence? How much nuance can the resolve to transform the status quo actually tolerate?

“Danton” is no celebratory jubilee; instead, it is a musical roller-coaster ride against political despair which deftly continues to interrogate the gaps in the Münchner Kammerspiele’s history and examines alternative possibilities for revolution.

The Post Paradies theatre collective was founded following a period of collaboration at the Theaterhaus Jena. The group played a pivotal role in the highly acclaimed production “Die Hundekot-Attacke” (“The Dog-Shit Attack”) by Wunderbaum which was invited to the 2024 Theatertreffen festival in Berlin. “Danton” is their debut production at the Münchner Kammerspiele.

“The Statue of Liberty has not yet been cast; the furnace is glowing and we could all still burn our fingers on it.”
