Spoken Word workshop and presentation on the messy, frustrating, and hilarious struggle of being yourself in a second language.
Don’t judge the manner of my speech
I beseech
don’t be a bitch
pardon my English.
Yossi Tsabari – an Arab Jew, queer and a father – lives between worlds. Through spoken word, he brings to light what is often overlooked and draws our attention to the blind spots in our society. In this workshop, he takes it a step further: the focus is on the vulnerability of writing and surviving in a language that is not one’s mother tongue.
Hear me out,
and when in doubt
Expressing your own soul in a foreign language can be quite exhausting. Many people who live far from home are familiar with this constant search for the right words. In this masterclass, Yossi works precisely with this linguistic friction – and turns it into creative energy.
take into account that your ears just might get misled-
listening is an art, perfected when using the heart
instead
Yossi brings along unfinished ideas, half-written texts, anger, questions or random thoughts. He performs, talks about his writing process and helps you turn your thoughts into words that really make an impact. To round things off, there’ll be a relaxed open mic or a short reading. Come along and give it a go – it’s not about perfection, but about finding your own voice.
pardon my English.
