Who? How? What?
Why? What for? Why?
WHY? Tell me why! Tell me why?!?

Nine young people from a wide variety of backgrounds come together: Who are you? Why does your family live in Munich? What do you believe in? They visit synagogues, churches, and mosques and explore their Jewish, Christian, and Muslim roots.

The few things they have in common become the basis of their play: they are all connected by the place where they live. They decide to explore the history of their hometown, Munich: How could National Socialism have emerged here? The young people also research the many attacks that have been carried out in Munich over the past decades and ask themselves: How do hatred and violence arise today? Sometimes you have to ask questions to understand something like this.

The young people also look within their families and ask themselves: How can shared memory work when our family histories differ so greatly? How do we remember the injustices of the Nazi era when they are intertwined with fewer and fewer family biographies?

Apart from where they live, the young people share only one other thing in common: they all speak a second native language at home. We learn about the life stories of the participants and their families, hear about experiences of flight and migration, and about encounters with racism and anti-Semitism. In doing so, the joint theater project aims to be more than a symbol: What does it mean to truly encounter one another? What does it mean to get to know one another? When can one say that we know one another?
